Greece, N.Y. — Why she’s in the news
Greece resident Maryann Cianciotto produces “A Prescription for Life,” a 30-minute television show that covers a variety of medical and health-care topics. It’s an educational show that provides viewers with the latest information about medical and health-care issues affecting the community.
The latest edition, hosted by Carlet Cleare, takes a look at stress. Stress management tips such as massage therapy, acupuncture, herbs and other coping strategies are offered throughout the program. Viewings in Monroe County throughout October are as follows:
• In Rochester, on cable channel 15 at 9 p.m. Tuesdays and 2 p.m. Thursdays;
• In Irondequoit, on cable channel 15 at 9 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; and 1:30 and 6 p.m. on Saturdays;
• In Penfield, on cable channel 15 at 9 a.m. Sundays, 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 6:30 p.m. Saturdays;
• In Webster, on cable channel 12 at 8 p.m. Fridays;
• Cable channel 4 showings, encompassing all of Monroe County, include 11 a.m. Mondays, 2 p.m. Tuesdays, 8 a.m. Fridays and 7 a.m. Sundays. The show can also be seen “on demand” at www.gospelhouse.tv.
Her background
Currently employed in the digital performing arts department at Monroe Community College, Cianciotto provides technical support for radio, television and radio at the school. She is the special-needs coordinator for Greece and assists special-needs people if there’s an emergency, and has trained for the Community Emergency Response Team. She has worked at the physical medicine and rehab department at Strong Memorial Hospital as a residency coordinator. She has a bachelor of science degree in audio visual communications from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Show production
This is Cianciotto’s third show. She used to work on a show with the Genesee Valley Nurses Association in a talk-show format, and it piqued her interest to create her own show. Now, she produces “A Prescription for Life” by herself, doing everything related to its production — including booking the guests and editing — except for hosting.
Cianciotto is currently working on the next “A Prescription for Life,” and the topic is specialists — including podiatrists, ophthalmologists, dermatologists and dentists. In the future, she would like to tackle bigger issues like stem cell research.
In her own words
“I wanted to do this show for two reasons,” Cianciotto said. “One, I wanted to combine both loves of the medical field and video production field; and secondly, if I can get the message out to people in the community and reach just one person, that would be worth it."
