Horror and science fiction genres are known for their DIY, homemade aesthetic. Each year 1000’s of low and no-budget films are released in hopes of finding distribution. The New Blood chronicles the making of these home-brewed movies by a very peculiar trio of men.
Mike, Lou and Lawrence aren’t your average teenagers playing with fake blood in the backyard. In fact their not teenagers at all. Mike (49), Lou (50) and Lawrence (24) are determined to make it big and ultimately change the face of Hollywood, by giving it a much-needed shot of creativity. Mike opens the film stating, “Hollywood doesn’t have anything new.” Never short of words, Mike states that the mainstream is primed and waiting for their films, even if they don’t yet realize.
The New Blood documentary is being directed by filmmakers Ben Gonyo and Christopher Reeg and is being produced by Gonyo’s Fish & Crown production company, based in Rochester, NY. Documentary Channel licensed Ben Gonyo’s last feature documentary Gamers, a film about the eccentric subculture of MMO games like World of Warcraft. The New Blood is slated for release in the fall of 2010.
The filmmakers are encouraging people to visit them online at www.NewBloodFilm.com where they can see video and images of the production in process. They are also hoping to raise money through a Kickstarter funding campaign that runs until September. Donations of as little as $1 are accepted and rewards are given to anyone donating $5 or more.
